TA 250ci waste toner issues

Have a strange one. Customer called because the waste toner was full and did not give them a warning. After checking this out by swapping an empty bottle with part of a towel stuffed into the waste toner bottle neck, the machine does not indicate a full waste toner bottle. Swapped out the retaining section with a working one, and still had the issue. Pulled out the waste toner bottle and box and the machine did not give a "no waste toner bottle" message. Replaced the engine PWB and updated firmware and still have the issue. I was able to print out 2 status pages without the waste toner bottle in the machine. I tested the customer's retaining section with a machine at the shop and it works as it's supposed to. Tried tech support and got no help.

This is an odd one, it obviously has been working for some time being an old m/c, has there been any work done on it prior to the fault showing (recent)
not sure if it could cause this but check there are no bent pins on the connector on the m/c side where you plug the front waste section in to.

Just a thought, would appreciate a fix if you find it.
