    Blocking color with job accounting.

Hi, can I use job accounting to block only color printing and have the copier "open" (in other words copier NOT asking for a code?

If you install "Color Lock" on the device. You will have to enter a code for color copies. But there will be a "Public Access" button that will allow B/W copying without entering a code.

But the OP wants to be able to run monochrome without entering a code.

Ok, so what I can do is... Load a black and white only printer driver on a server and share on the network. It's for a taskalfa 4551ci (so I can probably load the driver for a 4551i then)

that should solve the color printing issue...
now its just to prevent color copies... Customer wants to avoid having end users entering codes etc.

only a a very few end users will be able to use color.

Look at the "Properties -> Device Settings -> Administrator -> Lock Settings" tab. You can lock the 4551ci driver into monochrome mode and then password protect that setting so the end user cannot select color mode. That lets you use the correct driver while still locking out color.

As for copies ... Color Lock

It's been a couple of years, but it was free the last time I looked.

My service manager just got back from training and said the new color line (3050ci, 3051ci) have a setting in the User Login settings that allows you to set the machine so that it will not ask for a password until you select a restricted function (color, scan, etc ). I'll have to experiment with one and get the details down.

That would be cool! Please let me know! I'm busy with setting up 14 taskalfa 4551ci machines.

Go into the settings for "user login/job accounting" then go into "user login setting", turn on local authentication. I can't remember the exact wording, but there is a guest account that you can use to restrict functions. After that has been turned on, when you go back out to the main copy screen, it will only ask for a login if you select a restricted function.

Ok, new question again, can job accounting be setup for just printing and leaving the copier function " open"?
