    kyocera taskalfa mfp5501i grey background

hi. ive got an issue with the above model giving a grey shadowed background to copies. a previous engineer has been and said it was working fine when he went, so he calibrated the machine. now, a few days later the customer has rang up saying its doing the same thing. no doubt it will be working ok when I get there. any ideas why this would be intermittently doing this?
    thanks in advance

Is this machine fairly new to this location? They may be trying to run some sort of stock of paper that the copier doesn't support, or may be running pre-printed paper that is causing the subsequent 20 copies to come out with junk on it from the bad stock/preprinted paper. "Sorry, but no. T-shirt transfers which utilize an iron to transfer the image to the T-shirt cannot be used in a copier which uses heat to fuse the toner to the page........." Also, make sure if they're running a thicker supported stock, that they are also making sure to select the appropriate media type.

If their paper is fine --

Do they have any samples for you to look at? Look closely and see if the backgrounding has a charge roller pattern to it.

If the backgrounding is with no noticeable pattern, Do you have a machine in house or PM kit you could rob a developer out of? Might try to give them a loaner developer for a bit and see if that's the problem (Even if their machine is new)

thanks for replying...the machine is new, only done 36k. the paper looks ok , but I did notice the machine had non OM toner in it. ive attached a photo of the fault. as suspected , when I turned up the machine was copying fine. I didn't quite get it if only the copies have the background or printouts too. If it's the copies only, than optics has to be inspected and adjusted, you might have to use adjustment chart for it. If the printouts have the background, you have the culprit as you wrote: non oem toner (in like 90% cases that's the cause of it). You could confirm it by printing the event log.

Now you got few options here. The cheapest and longest one is to put the oem toner in and print thousands of pages untill it replaces the content of the crap non oem toner inside the developer unit. Second is to replace the developer unit and sacrifice half of the toner container capacity for it to add it. Third and the dirtiest one is to disassemble developer unit, vacuum all the toner powder inside, put the oem toner in and again let it add it.

        Good luck.

Hi Danwood007 - definitely the non oem toner. I don't normally slag off this stuff, but Danwood have bought in some floor sweepings from somewhere and it is causing no end of problems on this range of kit.
