[Misc] End of service machine hard drive

What are others doing with the hard drives on end of service machines as far as verifying the hard drives has been formatted/wiped clean for your customer. Wish there were a program on machine to do this and print out a report showing it had been done. Or am I missing it?

    Thanks Terry

We use a program called Destroy, it destroys the binary code on the HD by re-writing it several times, its the most effective way to remove data, and the most secure. Takes a while though.. I believe there are a few similar programs out their. Formatting drives will only clear the file structure, and leaves the data until it is written over, so avoid formatting if you really want to wipe something

    That or burn them.

If you have access to an Apple Computer, you have a choice of the following options whilst formatting:

On newer machines (Ta 2550ci and up) you can do it from System menu > data security > data sanitization > hard drive formatting. It's permanent and irreversible process that takes about 8 hours to complete, and once it starts it cannot be canceled.

...unless the machine gets inadvertently shut down!....then when restarted, it will pick up where it left off whilst formatting/sanitizing!

I know about sanitization mode. Would like to be able to print off report showing it had been done with machine serial # on it too.
I've had a few ask for something like that.

How about removing the HDD and just giving it to the customer to destroy themselves on the spot before removing the mfp?

We charge a flat rate to remove hard drives and hand them over to the client so that they are responsible for their data.
