    Kyocera Taskalfa 520i - problem

    hi

running out of ideas on this one. I have a taskalfa520i that's keeping showing "add paper" intermittently while running jobs from either of the two cassettes. Have tried replacing the lift motors, swapped and then changed pick-up assembly's, even replaced cassettes but to no avail.firmware is up to up to date, apart from looking at controller boards next is there anything else I could try? When you open and close the cassette the machine registers that the paper is there and carries on again before randomly looking for paper again. No error are being shown, just the add paper warning.
    thanks in advance.

Have you actually seen this happen or is this what the customer is telling you?

I can't be exact but it sounds like a feed clutch or feed motor intermittant fault.
Does it happen from all trays?
Could the bypass tray actuator be toggling and the machine thinks the bypass is activated during a long run?
Has the customer set their PC print driver to bypass printing?
Is their a bypass print job sitting on the server?

Check the grounds on the paper feed units, also the little plastic switch can get dislocated and fall at an angle. pull the little switch on the paper feed unit down until it clicks into place.

*oh, you've already switched those. there are also the two buttons machine side behind the drawers that tell the machine it has larger paper. If those get banged up they can randomly connect and change the paper size. But that would be apparent if they don't bounce back out when you push them.

*also, blow paper dust of the photo interrupter in the area

I have had a similar problem and ended up replacing the engine board which controls all the sensors and switches. If the wiring in the feed units is good and the actuator isn't deformed you may have a flaky engine board. Might also be a good idea to check the outlet to make sure there isn't a large amp draw from something else which can also cause the same symptoms.
