    Katun Toner Taskalfa5500/01

Has anyone had serious overtoning isues with the Katun Taskalfa 5500 and 5501 toner, issues are developer overtoned, backround on copy waste toner filling up, machines have latest firmware, and are all under 1000K. Does this toner work????

You have found the problem and answered your self. It took me a long time to find proper 3d party consumables. I dont have any KM anymore. I know they don't like compatible stuff. Had sleepless night because of crap toner. I start out using originals only and then select a machine close to the shop to start testing 3de party stuff.

In light of today's economy combined with technology that hardware manufacturers have available to deter 3rd party supplies, I struggle to believe that third supplies provide a reasonable value at the end of the day. For the thirty years that I have been involved in copier/printer service, with possibly one exception 15 years ago, I have never experienced a successful third party toner. And for sure, since the day of the firmware update's inception, you can bet, that if there was a successful toner that actually got into the pockets of the hardware manufacturer's profits, that the situation would have been promptly addressed. Many, many times I have waivered...and tried non-oem supplies, to no real benefit. I have even tried third party supplies when the OEM's did not work. I would love to hear from anyone with any substantial service experience that differed from this stance. I always like to learn. Thanks.

I too have in excess of thirty years experience in the copier business mainly with Sharp Kyocera , at the moment we are using spurious toner (Katun) on most of the Kyocera range, most of them, even the colour printers and MFP's seem to work. You get the usual problem of the odd fuser unit needing replacement. Most of the machines in the field are under three years old. The one machine we are having major difficulty with is the 5500/01 series, mind you even without the spurious toner they are a right coal burner. I expect we will withdraw the Katun 5500 product soon enough as it not economically viable to keep using it.

With the current 3rd party toner i am using on the Konica Minolta is working perfectly. I believe that the manufacturing secrets are out and we would be seeing much better products. It stays a gamble to figure out what works. The toners that works are manufactured in Germany, Japan and the US. It is a bit more expensive than the Chinese stuff but works 100% better. For the guys running Ricoh's IKON toner and developer is great.

In the last 18 years we used Katan toner, fuser rollers and drums, a couple of different times. None of the stuff ever worked, all we did in each case was waste a ton of money and piss off a lot of customers.

Just the thread i was looking for, thanks for your input.

However i could use some more info on Katun color toners in Kyocera TASKalfa machines, since i have 0 experience with it. One of my clients switched to Katun, and after some time i've noticed 2 dev units died on his old KM-C2525 machine, mostly due to it. TASKalfa 250ci machines he has are so far so good, but i need to make an official statement on my side to avoid future headaches. Any exact experience much appreciated.
