No, i don't think you can, because the firmware are the same for both models. The difference is in the eeproms, that contain data for speed ect. ALL parts and mk kits are the same otherwise. Also the control panel may have an eeprom also, that will reflect a difference in models

so if i change all the eeproms..including that of the panel..then it will be km5050?

No one would usually reply to a question as yours because, Makers of these machines has legal terms on the use and misuse of their machines. They strictly forbid re-engineering of their patents products and you can become liable for lawsuits ect. So be carefull what you are doing and if you do these types of mechanics, keep those machine at your basement and not in the public service domain... Doing modification is normal for techs who may find ways of improving a part function, like shortening a spring ect., but changing models and serial numbers are playing with fire, at least in north america.

We have replaced 4050 main boards to get a customer up and going using a out of service machine in our shop. Sometimes those machines have been 5050s....

I wouldnt do this to make the copier faster for the sake of doing it, or for the sake of selling it. Only if the machine needs to be fixed.

That is because the main boards for these two machine models are the same; the machine speed/model is hard-coded into the machine. If you start changing out EEPROM's and other components between different machines, you are very likely to convert it . . . to a boat anchor.

I would say no you can't do it. I tried it with a Falcon II series and it didn't end well

There's more to it than just the eprom, and the mk kits are different if you want to use a 716 kit in a 3050 you have to swap the connector on the back of the drum and vice versa for a 715 kit in a 5050.

                  To the copier engineer...
The wrong glass has been supplied, it should be 50% smaller Haha

Not meaning to condescend, but I almost spit out my drink when I read what you wanted to do. So I had to respond.
You can do this, I think. but you would have to replace the circuit boards(main board and control panel). But if you have these boards, that means you already have a 5050.
They are the same maintenance kit. Someone else here unnecessarily compared a 3050 to the 5050, but I read your request of converting a 4050 to a 5050. There is a difference between 3050 and 4050/5050
As others have said, not recommended though.
