    Fax meter reading problem

    Hi

I've got a TA5550CI that has been running fine for a couple of years and suddenly last quarter the customer noticed (they look at the readings monthly) that it had a fax count of 6.7m!
It has no fax option fitted and has had no PCBs/eprom replaced.

Has anyone seen this and can it be rectified without getting Kyocera involved to clear all the counts?
I work for a UK Kyo dealer and we can do this but want to avoid it for the customers sake.

    Thanks

Its a problem with the eprom. When you order a maintanace kit a new eprom should come with it. There is special firmware to load 1st so important data is backed up, then you replace the eprom. This fault has been around for a while and is well known at Kyocera. I'll look for the bulletin, and post it if i find it.

Thanks for the reply JSC, when I spoke to Kyocera earlier today they said they'd never seen it which made me go down this route.
So, does the new eprom/firmware update not back up the meter reading or does it zero them all?

        For the 5550Ci : Bulletin #TASKalfa 3050ci/3550ci/4550ci/5550ci-12

"As the MFP approaches two million pages, the data on the EEPROM may become corrupt. The most commonly seenissue is incorrect page counts with the following counters: Counter FAX Other2 (Custom size) Counter, Copy ScanCounter, FAX Scan Counter, etc. In most cases, this issue does not occur until the page count is close to two millionpages, however, various factors can cause it to occur sooner. As a Preventative Measure for machines in the field, Technical Services recommends replacing the EEPROM at the next600K PM, following the provided procedure.A New Blank EEPROM and Procedure will be included with the MK-6705A 600K B&W Maintenance Kit for aperiod of 12 months from the original issue date of this Bulletin. A Label “EEPROM Included” will be placed onthe outside of the MK Kit for identification.

If you find that the Meter Count issue has already occurred, it is necessary to obtain a Programmed EEPROM fromKDA. Contact the Diagnostic Center to report the problem and be provided with the procedure to follow. A complete set ofstatus pages are required (Maintenance Mode U000). Lead time for a new Programmed EEPROM is approx. two weeks.

Note: A Blank EEPROM CAN NOT be used to resolve the problem if the Meter Count issue has already occurred."
