    [Misc] MFX-3590 always wants toner

A recently installed 3590 was giving a "replace toner" message; replacing the toner with a new OEM toner did not result in the message going away. We can see the percent remaining change a little, but it shows 3 to 5% for a brand new toner. The one that came out feels pretty heavy, too. Any way to reset this, or is there a particular sensor known to cause the problem?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve,
If you have another 3590, try installing the supposed "empty" toner into it (or a 3530) and see if the "replace toner" message follows it.
Did the machine tell you that a new toner had been detected when the toner was installed? There's a chip on the back of the toner that holds the counts. Are you running a supply toner or the toner that comes in the drum?
Have you tried replacing the drum?

what we have found is that the sensor board under the toner cart. that moves up and down when the front door is open, sticks down sometimes so that when the door is closed the sensor doesn't get to detect that there is toner in the new cartridge -- the cartridge has a circular clear window that this sensor reads -- the machine needs to see this toner in the window to ask you if you want to use the new toner -- if you don't answer yes to this message you will get varying usage out of the new toner -- also be sure the toner message says replace not low or replace soon -- the toner add function does not add until the reservoir empties then it fills again so the toner add only comes on occasionally -- the latch on the front top of the cart. may need to be bent up -- the cartridge sometimes doesn't stay in all the way causing premature toner messages -- our toners are lasting over 18K on average -- we send a note in the toners asking for a phone call if the message does not come up -- have had fewer issues since

I really don't want to be pedantic but, just for future reference, I've looked at those chips before and they do not appear to store any sort of count. The only info is the serial number of the toner and the machine(s?) it was placed in.
