Hi Folks,
Need some help selecting the right machine for the job.
I manufacture index tabs, and want to buy a digital copier machine to print on 90 lb. - 125 lb. white/manila index paper. Paper size is mostly 11" X 9". I usually print on the last 1/2" of the 9" side. Also I print 9 to 12 point Bold Helvetica font. Right now we use a riso printer in house and farm out printing on ones with color or body copy with logos etc.
I like the tab printing to be crisp and clean, so the Riso is not always up to the challenge.
I have clients that send us customer stock that is already printed and the print quality is amazing. One of the smaller machines that I've seen in person, is a Docucolor 252. My plan is to buy a used machine and have a local repair guy do any repairs.
My questions are:
1. is a Docucolor 252 overkill for printing tab titles mostly?
2. If I don't use the color for a month or 2, is this bad for the machine?
3. Is their another very common machine that will print the 11" X 9" paper, I can find on Ebay?
4. Is there any way to control the heat? Some of the tabs are curled bad from the fuser heat?
5. Finally is there a big difference in print quality on coated smooth stocks compared to more coarse stock like index paper? It seems all the customer stock supplied tabs are printed on some kind of CS paper etc.?
Thanks for reading this long post and any suggestions you can help with. I've been researching this for a month or so and I'm more confused now than when I started. I tried to buy 2 different DC 252 on craigslist that sold right before I could buy them.
