Zebra T610 thermal printer

I have 0 experience with these..I have been fighting for 6 weeks to find rolls to use with this..The 1st (guaranteed to work) rolls would not fit the spindle, the 2nd rolls (4x6) gap on a roll. works but nothing will print..I'm not sure which paper requires a ribbon and which doesn't. Any tips would be appreciated. E

The Zebra works with both plain paper labels which require a printer ribbon or coated paper known as Direct Thermal labels which do not require a printer ribbon.

Printing with a ribbon is known as Thermal Transfer and creates a permanent image which will not fade over time.

With Direct thermal printing, the image fades over time and is usually more expensive than Thermal transfer with a ribbon because the price of the coated paper is constantly rising due to a scarcity of the non environmentally friendly chemical used to make it.

If when you scratch the label media that you have with your fingernail and it leaves a black mark, you have Direct Thermal paper.

Once you know what kind of media you want to use, you have to navigate the LCD panel and let the printer know your choice.

... the choice of ribbons depends on what media you are trying to image onto. If the 4" x 6" labels are plain paper (you can easily tear them by hand), I would recommend:

4.33" x 1476' Wax Ribbons - 1" Core - Smith Corona

You will need a spare 1"cardboard core to rewind the used ribbons onto the printer's take up spool.

The printer settings have to match if the ribbons you receive are Coasted Side Out (CSO/ most common) or Coated Side In (CSI/ less common).

You usually cannot order a single ribbon, you have to order a case.

Also try U-Line. Both vendors offer telephone assistance.

A review of this product video reveals that you do not need a spare cardboard take up core for the printer ribbon.

... this particular ZT610 featured in the video is equipped with an optional internal rewinder as seen rotating in the bottom at 1:30 mark.

I only work on Toshiba and Epson label printers so I am not 100% familiar with Zebra models. The equivalent Toshiba BEX-4T1 is less than half the price of the Zebra.

While both printers are capable of printing at 14 inches per second (ips) most label printers at set at much slower speeds (6 ips) to get the highest image quality.

This maybe you cheapest option with non OEM ribbons.
