    Oki C5250

    Evening all,

My sister has got an Oki C5250 that she has had for a few years. Recently it was displaying replace black pcu and I managed to clear this by doing an NV ram clear. It has run fine after that for months but she had to replace the black pcu due to a chip on the drum, again it ran fine for a while but then she started to get faint prints. After having a look I found that it had completely run out of black tonor without the machine reporting tonor low(I guess due to the ram clear) Anyway we have since replaced the tonor and are still getting faint prints due to black density. Anyone got any ideas on how to maybe force tonor or something else to check ?

    Thanks in advance

I agree, this is the most likely cause. an NV Ram clear will reset the toner levels to 100% but this will soon rectify as the toner level is monitored by a sensor related to the toner cartridge which will soon detect the correct toner levels. Another cause could be the drum starting to fail but this should only be the case if it has been reset a couple of times. You can usually get around 2 resets out of a drum before the quality really starts to drop but these drums are manufactured to give 100% quality for the life of the drum. If you clear the NV Ram to clear the drum life message then you can not guarentee the quality much past the expected life of the drum.
