Epson DFX5000+ System lock-up Problem

I'm having a problem with an Old Epson DFX5000+ Impact Tractor feed clunker

if you send a print job to it or run it in the test mode, after ten or so sheets have fed through, the PrintHead stops, but the ribbon continues spooling, however it does not print, have to turn the printer off and back on to clear it. No error lights, no beeps, just stops printing, but the ribbon is still spinning.?

Any thoughts.............

I have come across several posts on this subject around the various Tech Forums, but no one seems to have an answer..
