    Sudden Fax connection loss?

    Hello forums.

Our fax machine, Canon Laser Class 710 has all of a sudden lost its connection somehow.

Been getting a NG report #0018

The weird thing is that the fax machine was working fine yesterday.
Then as of this morning, everytime we try to send/receive fax, we get an error report.

Also, I plugged a regular phone line into the phone jack the fax machine was using, and was getting no dial tone.
The thing is, the fax machine is in a office, and I do believe we have multiple phone lines.

What are some possible causes that could cause this?

OK if you plug a phone into the wall jack and get no dial tone your fax will not work. It has to have an operating phone line to work. Call your phone company.
Testing 1-2-3, testing, testing. Is this thing on?

If your phone doesn't have dial tone do you call the guy you bought the phone from?
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

          #0018 means busy/or no signal.
no dial tone = no signal as the other posters have said.

Looks like we found a winner for the "Duh" award!

I hope this guy wasn't hired for his technical prowess.

Well guys. Got the fax working.
Turns out boss forgot to pay the bills the past 2 months or so. lmfao

                  But

Still no dial tone when I connect a regular phone to it. Tried it with about 5 different phones and phone lines thinking maybe defective phone, etc.

May be a special fax line or something.. God knows what it is.
Just happy the fax is up and working...

Maybe close this thread to keep more people from posting Lulz and Hurr Durrs, who obviously can't think beyond standard levels.

Thanks anyways for responding/reading my thread.

One time I went through 8 different brands of phones to test a line and never got a dial tone! Who would believe all the phones had the same defect? Luckly BigLots took back 5 of the phones so I didn't blow my repair budget that month!

"Special fax line". Yes that's what it must be!
I would bet ANYTHING that you weren't plugging in a standard phone to try the line, but rather one of the office phones from your system, that's why there's no dial tone. So you can keep that "DUH" award

Twice a week I get service calls for this crap, and I just close my calls with the note " told customer to call telco. "

I've gone as far as to call the operator and ask the operator to check the line (I do this with the customer standing right by) and the operator says that the service has been shut off due to non payment. Yes I know it's a charge but if I charge them will they pay me?
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.
