    Brother MFC-8860DN "No Tray"

I'm working on a Brother MFC-8860DN with a fault message "No Tray" and buttom of display says "Reinstall Tray". I can not find what sensor tells the machine that the paper tray is present. I took off the covers and on the left side there is a white lever that the paper tray actuates when inserting the paper tray. The tray moves this white plastic lever but I can't find any sensor associated with it. There are 2 black platic flags just to the left of the feed rollers but one appears to be the "paper tray empty" flag and the other the "paper fed" flag. The paper tray lift gears are working properly. I also tried another paper tray with no luck.

The T1 paper feed actuator detects the presence or absence of the paper tray 1 and the rear edge of paper, and distinguish the paper size, and detects a paper jam in the front section.

Get the manual, worth it .
