i will try to contact okidata, but usually csr service sucks.
The HDD of the C9800 contains the Fiery software. That can also explain the error.

It's time for a service call from a trained technician, or an RA to send it back............................

Okidata is an international company, you should contact them for possible local service locations. Since it is a used printer all factory warranty is most likely null and void. You should contact the seller for any type of return. Just like EBAY buyer be ware!!!!!

If the HDD contains the Fiery software as eric indicates, you will most likely have to obtain a new HDD form OKI with the software preloaded.

                  Hi guys

In my case I resolved the problem (communication error) removing a memory (512MB) from formatter slot, I did have 2 memories and I continue with only the 256 mb.

After removing the memory... I turn on the machine and the error were gone.

                  I hope this help.

                  Regards

                  Karl

                      Ok
I will try to explain...(my english is still improving)
Please turn off the printer, then open the main logic board gate (two screws, where you connect USB, network cable. Etc) there you will find the hdd, network card, fans and at the left corner are the memory slots.
In my case I have two (256 and 512) I did take off the 512 and I leave only the 256 in to the machine and then turn on the printer...I did wait for the boot process and then the printer live again...the error was gone.
I think this memory (512) for a unknow reason was broken.

                      Hope this help.
                      Regards
                      Karl
