Ten reasons not to buy an OKI.
1. They take a ridiculously long time to initialize. An ES-7170 takes 4 minutes an 30 seconds from the get go just to check its systems.. Windows 98 was faster.
2. The software, sucks.. ALL OF IT. OKI MFC's come with many utility's, most of witch fail to even connect to machines.
3. FIRMWARE is almost impossible to find, utility's designed to stream line this process simply do not work. Half of these utility's are model specific without telling you which models they support, and only certain models have software that is downloadable online. If you want firmware, be prepared to call support every single time just for them to send you a link to some utility that does not work.
4. They are brand confused, OKI's are basically cheap Toshiba's, or maybe Toshiba's are just expensive OKI's? I don't know, nor do I care.. What I do know how ever is that this mix and matching of hardware and software makes EVERYTHING that much more confusing. You don't know who to blame when s%&@ doesn't work.
5. They have the structural stability of that vertically confused tower in Italy. They feel cheap, they rattle, and yet removing covers is still a nightmare.
6. They touch panel interface is non responsive, and the smaller models are a pain to navigate.
7. On a few of the MFC (Mono and Colour) they include a handy little staple unit! That does not work. EVER. Straight out of the box, in front of perspective buyers, staple unit fails repeatedly to staple two pages of A4 together. This has been the case with several new units.
8. FIRMWARE UPDATE. Not only is it way to difficult to find firmware, do not expect it to be easy to update. Utility's fail to connect to MFC's, updated through the web browser refuses to except firmware upload. And even from the disk, we have had issues.
9. Paper size auto detect. Lets face it guys, end users do not understand the ins and outs of printing and scanning.. They are not supposed to, that is not their job, but when a customer asks you why their old machine simply knew what size paper was being placed on a scanner bed, and their new OKI demands you select a specific paper tray, what do you tell them?
I SAT AT OKI for hours while their technician tried to figure out how to turn this off, to no end.
10. The little things, lack of availability of manuals, poor support, terrible software... Bad print quality.. Confusing websites (I find my self browsing over country's websites in languages I don't understand just to find things, which I never find) No firmware.. I know other brands need a log on to access firmware, but with OKI, its just not there. Your expected to write it yourself.
I don't care if no one ever reads this, but I had to yell it out some where, sick of having to deal with this c&%# over and over again, its not only not professional, but it makes technicians look like they don't have the correct resources, just because they don't exist.
I wish sales would stop pushing this crap, but I guess it makes for a good deal.
Defiantly my least favorite brand. What do you guys think?
