and i have 40GB hard disk but i didn't know how to install it

Is the HDD for a Panasonic? If so you'll need the hardware to go with it, mounting bracket and cables 1 ribbon and a power cable. I may be able to get you the installation guide for that. Email me, when I get home and I will check, this info should have what hardware is needed to install your options and how to do it.
