    DP 6030 Hard Drive

I have a 6030 in the field that says memory full about 20 originals into the copy job. I know the customer runs this job alot. It has not been an issue until today. They have always had the standard 32MB for both page and sort memory (the machine setup information sheet shows this). Here is where it gets fuzzy for me. When I arrived, I saw the "memory full" issue happen. So I used another set of originals that they also run and all was fine. Then I ran the set of originals that I saw had the problem and it ran all 56 originals just fine. Ran it a few more times and all was well. Machine is working fine. I heard what I thought was a fan noise and thought I would look into it. It was the hard drive making the noise. Little gruntting noises, like its about to die. Then looked at the machine setup information report and it says it has no hard drive. Last week it said it had a hard drive. Ok, so I would have to say the hard drive is bad. But, the machine is functioning. If this is correct, here is my question????????

What exactly does the hard drive do for a 6030? It was not a standard option on this machine. This customer faxes, scans, prints, and copy. Need to know what its function is and what the procedure is for replacing one. Never replaced one on a Panasonic.

These HDD units are absolute junk. The symptom it usually exhibits when the HDD is dying is a constant rebooting of the machine, although I know the noise you mention all too well. Unfortunately, the HDD is only used for scanning, so it would seem you have a bad HDD. F9 service mode print out machine information; it will list the HDD as "YES". If the machine is used for scanning, it MUST have an HDD. That is all the HDD does; scan.

Like I mentioned, when they are going bad and the reboots start, we just unplug the HDD. If the customer scans, we replace it, if not, problem solved. Just replace it and the machine will do the rest. It will go into a scan disk at power up.

What Mojo said. Also, if the Workio screen seems to hang, or just sit there, replace the HDD.

I removed the hard drive and the machine seemed to work fine. Later last night it did it again. When copying, it stops and says it has exceeded memory. Only after a few originals that have very little text on them. Seems to be a memory problem, I think. F9 shows 32MB of memory. The customer has ran this report before with 56 originals and it has worked fine. Whats throwing me off is it works sometimes and sometimes it fails. No consistancy. With the hard drive removed I did test scanning. It scanned to the customers PC just fine. I only used 1 original for this test though. I also copied 56 originals several times before I left yesterday and it copied just fine.

I am very confused on this one since Panasonic seems to not want to let go of information. When originals are scanned to produce copies, where odes the info go? I assume it goes into the memory. If so, is it part of the SC board? The reason I am trying to understand is that my boss asks alot of questions that I cant answer. Any more input you can give to help me with this would be greatly appreciated.

dp xx10/xx30/80xx the harddisk drive seens to be only used in mailbox printing function, tamdom copy function, some of them it can increase the rotate sort memory&copy memory.

if your harddisk drive has gone,if the customer haven't use the mailbox secure printing function.you can remove the fault harddisk drive.

the biggest electric company of the world, there copy machine using IDE HARDDISK...here is 2012 now.we feel very difficult to find a brand new IDE harddisk to customer for replace.

fortunately, panasonic b&w copier is not the same as C-262/322 or other panasonic color copier...

panasonic color copier after remove the harddisk, customer will cannot use the scan function...

i hate the c-262/c-322,they are using IDE HARDDISK DRIVE.but these of machine just have very few of harddisk gone.

07-16-2012.pdfLet me make sure I understand. The hard drive will help support sort memory? So, if the customer only has the standard 32MB of sort memory and a hard drive, anything over 32MB will go to the hard drive? This would seem to make since. The hard drive goes out and now you only have 32MB of memory. The customer uses about 50 originals everyday to run a report. They have been doing this forever. The only change is the hard drive went out. Without the hard drive they can fax, scan, copy and print. So, I guess I need to replace the hard drive or add memory, right?

I have attached a copy from the parts book of the 80XX and the 60XX. Looking at it I would say the HDDs are not interchangable. But thought I would ask more experianced Panasonic techs. Let me know if my thought are on track or what your thought are.

Just a follow up. The hard drive does serve as extended memory. I replaced the hard drive from an 8035 and it worked fine. Now the customer can copy more than 10 originals. The machine comes standard with 32MB of sort memory. You can add more if you like. If it has a hard drive there is no need to add more.
