    Scan to email question

I am trying to set up a DP-8035 to fax forward to email. The first step is to see if the machine will scan to email. I attempted to set it up for scan to email, but could not. Was wondering if anyone has ran into this problem. Here we go:

    1. The customers email is an @bellsouth.net, although it is with AT&T.

    2. The DSL technical support with AT&T said all there SMTP servers use SSL, which I am told would not work with the Panasonic.

Any input on this from you folks that have been around a while would be greatly appreciated.

Panasonics do not support SSL. You can get a free email address from GMX. We use it all the time for older machines that do not support encryption.

Thanks Mojo. Can you elaborate on this. The only method I know on setting up scan to email is:

      1. Give the copier an email address in user parameters #5. I normally get this from the customers ISP via the phone.

      2. Enter SMTP server name in parameters #6.

      3. Enter Auth name and password in #8 &9. I get this from the ISP if required by them. Also I make #170 SMTP AUTH. (valid)

      4. Enter email addresses in the address book.

I am not real savy on this, so if you could help guide me I would forever be in your debt. I just not sure what steps are needed to accomplish what you are talking about.

Yes, that is the basic setup. ATT, Gmail, and most use some form of encryption and will not work with this model. GMX works well in these situations as it does not use encryption and works with the default Panasonic port (25). As an alternative for email scanning, you could use the Communication Utility installed on the PC. It will push the buttons out to the machine and create a folder on the desktop.

Actually the customer wants incoming faxes to go to an email. What I normally do is get the machine to scan to the email address first. Then if I can get it to scan to email, I will set to fax forward option. I just don't understand how to go about bypassing the ISP server. I assume thats what you were referring to about using the GMX address. I just don't know how to do that.

The GMX credentials would be used instead of the ATT credentials to use the SMTP server. For example:

            SMTP: smtp.gmx.com
            User: somecompany@gmx.com
Password: this is the password for the email account you created at GMX.

So if I understand you correctly:

              SMTP:smtp.gmx.com

              No smpt authorization needed

User is my new email address that I set up on GMX

Password is my password to get to my email account on GMX

*** What about the email address of the copier? #5 under Function>Fax/email>user parameters>#5

I think this cover everything, right?

I have always used the same email that I enter for the User. Also, make sure that email address is in the address book.
Sounds like you get the gist of it.

Hey Mojo. Can you look at the attachment and see if I have this correct? Still cannot get it to work. More than likely its the idiot (me) behind the key board.

I am not sure but if you enter POP info, I believe it trumps SMTP...POP before SMTP, or something like that. Delete the POP info and set all POP to off or invalid. You are not responding to the machine so you do not need POP.

                          Hello Mojorolla,

I just start to use gmx mail for the older panasonic machine. It works but it take forever to receive a mail from the gmx smtp server. I even try to send mail from the web with my gmx account but it is the same. Right after I create the account, the first few mail i send out I did receive them right away. Do you experience the same problem?

                          Thank you for your input!
