    Paper direction on faxes

I have alot of machines with fax option. 23xx, 30xx, 80xx, dpcxxx. I was told that the paper tray must be set up for 8.5X11 longways to receive faxes. Just wondering if this is necessary. I prefer all paper to feed 11x8.5 (the first number being the lead edge). Just wanted to get your thoughts on this and any advice you may have.

Don't ask me why but it is true. I also work on NEC and if you do not have one tray or the bypass set for shortedge feed, you can't even get a report to print. I used to think that it was shortedge feed for fax because that was the way you originally sent faxes and the concept just remained as a legacy.

Weird. We have dozens of those panasonics with faxes and they have no problem either with 8.5x11 or 8.5x11R.

Thanks onetek. Thats what I thought. I would rather have it feed 11x8.5 that 8.5x11. I feel its more reliable. Many years ago it did matter. But today, I dont think it does.
