Ricoh 1045 LD unit making high pitch noise

Help - I do not want to spend $400 on a LD unit. Is there any cure to quite this thing down. I know this machine very well, but am very leary taking a working machine with a noise and making it a non working machine. Any solutions?????

Aye, polygon mirror all the way. These things do scream like a banshee on crack when they're on the way out.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.
