    MP6001 service lock out?

I have been doing service on a MP6001 and an MPC4503 for the last year.
The customer bought these from a dealer here in town but did not get a service
agreement with them. Instead I have a time and materials agreement with them.

The dealer came in last week and said they wanted to upgrade the firmware on the color machine.
The person at the school thought nothing of it and let them in, after they left, the color machine was
down with SC 672-12 code. I started a different thread for that. And the MP6001 has an SC501 code
and is locked out of the #1 feed tray. I was not able to get into service mode the usual way.
    Is there a back door?
I may see this machine tomorrow afternoon.

    Thanks

Service mode lock is in User Tools / System Settings Admin Tools.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Toner Munkeh, I'm not sure I can get into that part. It hasn't letting us change anything under admin.
I will have a closer look tomorrow.

        Brianneoe,
I assume your talking about access through the network page?
I have never done that, guess I'll get over that too.

Thank you both for sharing on Sunday.

Your customer should call the dealer and tell them they need to fix what they broke, as they took advantage of an unknowing employee of the school and they need to unlock the service made. I know some dealers are using the firmware upgrade as "a way in" to customers that they don't necessarily service, because the manufacturer say's it's mandatory and the dealer gets paid by the manufacturer to do this.......

The 672-12 could very well be that they toasted the controller............

            Re: MP6001 service lock out?

I agree 100%, I will talk with my customer as to the timing of the 672-12 code and theh firmware upgrade.
If it was fine before and the code came up after then they would have the liability. But do they have the
integrity to do the right thing?
I used to work for Kodak and one would think that they would impress integrity on all their reps.
But I remember a sales mgr that would sue a government dept if he did not get the deal.
And heard of another that would sign the Svc contract for the customer.
That was at time when Kodak was flush with money. Right now they're just about gone.
I hate to say but the world of the indy has a few shady characters also.

Phx may be the 5th or 6th largest city, but ya can't hide a bad rep for long.
I've worked very hard to maintain my rep here in town and I can't afford to
have it trashed by these guys.

My thought was if I can fix it without them coming to my aid, then the customer will see that I can handle their svc needs.
And they will give themselves the black eye better than I could.
            May be just wishful thinking

Thanks for the support, the people on this site are a great team
And I'm lucky to have this support.

            Thanks

Logging in as supervisor can be done from either WIM or the machine console. Supervisor can only modify the administrator name, password and function. You can then log out and log back in as admin. If supervisor password has been changed, yo will have to use factory reset SP mode, access to which is something that we do not post in an open public forum.

Thank you for that clarification. I understand and support your not posting that in an open forum.
I may know someone who can help.

                  Re: MP6001 service lock out?

Well, I saw this unit yesterday and I was able to get into service without any
                  special code.
Last week when I pressed the system icon It would gray and just stay on that page.
It was close to the end of the day so I moved on.
This week the SC501 code was gone and I got into service without any trouble.
                  Now I'm confused, what changed?
Somethings we will never know I guess.
I was able to unlock the MPC4503 and change the admin pass word and change the IP address.
I accidentaly wiped out the address book in the process, but now they can print to it and make
copies. The feed belt on the doc feeder was shredded. I pulled off all the threads so it would
at least work. Today I will replace the belt, I think I can get someone here I know to help with
the SC672-12 code that pops up from time to time.

Thanks for all the help and support.
