Lanier LD 445C / Ricoh Aficio MP C4500SPF "add toner" with full toner

the machine spins the black toner cartridge and after several minutes says "add toner" toner is depleted. then after i open and close the door it says "loading toner" i pulled the toner dispensing clutch assy., called the pump unit part # B223 3211 and it was hard to turn. i thought it must be slipping. i tried to vacuum out the tube and retested and same thing. replaced it with a now one but didnt replace the rubber hose that came with it as it seemed like a pain, and same thing. i then blew out the hose re tested no change. i attempted to run the ? 1503 or 1803 toner motor and it "failed". i tied the toner pump clutch routine sim and that didn't make any noise and i couldn't detect any movement from the clutch plate. also checked the magenta and same thing. i manually added toner into the developer opening twice and still never a ready. the display says "independent - supplier toner cartridge is set" in the past with the Savin CLP 28 / Ricoh Aficio AP3800C i would vacuum out the offending toner tube and it was good to go. after many restarts of the front door to restart the toner loading i removed the pump/ clutch unit and there was some black toner in the tube but didnt look like there was any inside the pump auger section. i am wondering now if i missed seeing if the drive gear that turns the pump clutch was actually turning. does anyone have any idea what in the world could be the cause?? i will go back and see if i can watch the gear turning. thank you, Jim

Toner pumps fail in these models. Replace the toner pumps.
They have a helical rubber impellor mechanism, the pump wares out.
Replace the entire toner pump unit associate with the problem colour.

Toner pumps fail in these models. Replace the toner pumps.
They have a helical rubber impellor mechanism, the pump wares out.
Replace the entire toner pump unit associate with the problem colour.

HI, thank you. yes, the toner pump i replaced with a brand spanking new one. that is the one behind the BK drum unit correct? i didnt go into the back side. do i need to remove the rear control board to get to the back where the tubes run and the drive gears are? and would the drive unit have to be disassembled??

so, is there a possibility that the non OEM is causing the fault? as it does spin the toner cartridge on and off when its "loading toner" ?

So it is, in fact, generic toner then? That is a Big no no! While it may work fine for a while, it will inevitably come back to bite you, and I believe it has.
If you manually loaded toner into the dev unit, and were still unable to get the 'add toner' message to go away, then the problem is not related to the pump, tubing, or toner motor.
Sounds more like the crappy toner is not being read by the TD sensor. I'd suggest swapping in a new dev unit (or complete PCU) to test, or otherwise replacing the developer.
What is the PM count on the dev BTW?
Make sure to thoroughly clean/ vacuum out the entire toner system and pump, and replace with a genuine cartridge too, otherwise you may find yourself right back in the same situation

It's not a pain to replace the hose, the control board swings aside with several screws removed, I would just replace the hose, after getting an OEM Cartridge. The cost of OEM Black toner is so low, I can't imagine $10 bucks could be worth all the toner delivery, and fusing issues you will save yourself. The cartridges go like 20k do the math you could save like .0001 a page?

Cut the wrong corner, and get Hit by a Mac Truck, to save a Buck!

i have gone back and changed out the black rubber tube. i also found a OEM toner but after i had tested it for a while with the generic. the toner is spinning. the drive belt is spinning. i have no way of testing the toner pump clutch to see if it is actually on as when i pull the drum unit out and attempt to do the toner pump on sim, the machine tells me that the drum isn't set. the drum and developer units are in fact turning. wondering how to see if the clutch signal is actually on???
