Re: Need help with Word Perfect

Me I'm a sucker for old school word-star format editor, it's orientated toward the use of with quick keys, but once you learn the key-strokes you can throw text around very quickly. My next editor is everyone's favourite Ms-Word.<snicker> I don't mind the Ms-word office-14 version (Word-2010) I'm using at the moment,it does the job.

In the early days of word processing, Word Perfect allowed you to select the desired printer from within the software. Word used the default printer. If you wanted to use a different printer, you had to exit Word and change the default printer. One of the biggest pluses to Word Perfect is that it can do many of the document operation that with Microsoft you have to purchase Publisher.
True, Word has been out forever as well, but I don't think I remember seeing it much before 1995.

WordPerfect 5.1 was king at that time. Word Star (and others), were out there, too.

I remember an instructor telling me that at one time, Lotus 1-2-3 (DOS based) was actually used as a word processor at one time. Imagine, no word wrap, formatting of any sort, etc.... Ick

The only time it is not easy is when someone is too lazy to learn it. If you want not easy that was Word Star. Very few drop down menus. Almost everything was embedded control codes that you had to memorize.

There used to be a commercial nursery, they got seedlings ready for farmers to plant, that used an original IBM PC (True Blue) running Symphony to run climate control on all his greenhouses and keep track of how the seedlings should be progressing. He didn't want to replace the PC with something newer as even PC AT would not run the version of Symphony he was using and nothing else was able to do what Symphony could in one software.

My first computer course at the local college was using "fFirst Choice", an Office like package with a word processor, spread sheet app, and I think a database program. All DOS based, of course.

If I remember correctly, the whole package came on 3 or 4 floppies.

My company used Office 4.3 back in the day, this was Windows based. It was on 22 floppies.

i always have a copy of Open Office on my PC. I like it.

It had the unique ability to save to a PDF long before Office could. It also has a database program included, where you have to get Office Professional to get Access.

it did, however, stumble badly on large spreadsheets. Some years ago, our entire product line was a 12mb Excel file, with about 2 dozen tabs, and about a gazillion links and macros. While Excel struggled with it a bit, it did work, but Open Office was unusable with it.

For what it is worth, I like "Open Office", but I like the "LibreOffice" fork better.

Libre office is indeed a result of some sort of "dispute" between the open office developers. I too lprefer the libre office fork for no reason

Having used both Open Office and Libre Office as well as Excel, I prefer the way that Open Office and Excel work with Goose's Guide.

Yeah I should get off my butt knock up a quick search program App for *.xls file formats like goosesguide.xls.
I been telling myself to do it for quite some time, I still intend to do as part of the ittb.exe tool sets in any case.
