I have found when replacing the DV, that after i initialize it, the vsp and vsg is out in the overtoned range. Someone on this forum had me detone brand new DV before a 2801 and i have had great results from it. It makes the machine not add as much toner every time the copies start to become light.

On this model one step you need to do when replacing developer before running the 2801 setup is to set the charge bias back to default value of 1500 its in the manual i forget the sp number its in the 2's, if you forget to do this you can run into over dark pages.
