    Ricoh aficio 2238C offsetting help

    Hi Folks,
I have a Savin C3828/Aficio 2238C series, thats offsetting colors, as if I were printing/copying a word, the print is off maybe a half centimeter. If printing black only, of course its fine, but when printing in full color, my colors are off just a bit. I did color registrating via users adjustments, but to no avail, and it doesnt happen all the time, intermittantly. I dont really see any one color that its doing it to, could be cyan or magenta. I'm hoping theres an adjustent in service mode..? could it be developer engagement?, something with the transfer belt..? any help appreciated !..

Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

The colour reg was always a little hit and miss on this print engine design.

I would take the transfer unit out and check the reflective roller under the belt is clean and the belt has no scratches or intends that pass directly where ID sensors take their reflective reading.

Of coarse I would manually clean around the three ID sensors inside the machine with a toner cloth and the ID sensors themselves with an air puffer or cotton bud.

This should only need to be done if Auto Color Registration in User Tools and Line Position Adjustment in SP 5-993-002 result in a fail message. If the ID sensor assembly is not clean it will affect results. Check that there is no slippage of the transfer belt on the drive or the paper on the transfer belt. Check that there is no problems with the Paper attraction roller.

Lastly, with the age of this model, you might consider replacing it.

I have had many of these units fail in color registration. The bulletin thats in reference is a good one and if you follow it word for word you can manually get the colors lined up. Once you line all the colors up on the test pattern print you need to disable auto color registration and acc.
This system does work and hold for a long time until someone tries to auto color calibrate again or tries auto color registration.
I gave up replacing parts and trying auto registration when it cost more to do that than manually locking it in.
Get a loop so you can see the lines more clearly and my advise is work on the cyan or magenta first until it lines up perfect then go off those general numbers for the other colors in relation to how far off they were in original test pattern printout. (The black is the line you want to match all other colors too)!!!
The first time you do it you will be overwhelmed but it gets easier once you know what the service modes change.
          GOOD LUCK!!!
