MP3351 Controller Board replacement-"SD Card restoration is required"

I am replacing a controller board with a HDD and encryption data. I have never had to do this. I am getting a message "SD card for restoration is required. Turn the main switch off and set the SD card, then turn the main power switch on"
What exactly do I need to do?

You either have to restore the HDD encryption key -or- clear (disable) the HDD encryption on the NVRAM by preparing an SD card accordingly.

You won't be able to proceed further until you do one or the other.

If the customer has the encryption key print out the HDD and the data already present on it is recoverable (restore).
If you clear (disable) the HDD encryption from the NVRAM the data on the HDD will be lost, but the HDD can still be used after a format (you just have to start from scratch, input scan users etc).

The procedure is in the service manual under ' Installation > HDD encryption > Recovering from a device problem '.

Does the customer have the encryption key?
Check their machine manuals, inside the door, it's normally a single sheet printed off when HDD encryption was originally setup.

If the customer has not got the encryption key you have no choice but to follow the ' Clearing the NVRAM ' for HDD encryption.
