    MPC 6502 thick paper issue

    Hello all,

I have a customer trying to print to label paper using the bypass tray on the C6502, I know this thing can check the paper thickness but if we a make a copy to thick paper ie label paper using the bypass and the #key to set it to thick 1 it will copy to the paper fine. If I try a print job it will jam using thick 1,2,3, or 4 in either direction. J098 paper thickness jam. If we leave the bypass empty it will pull a plain sheet out of a regular tray vs asking for us to fill the bypass tray, so i am guessing the driver is not telling the machine we are using thick paper. We are using the proper driver, and machine is set to driver command for bypass usage.

Is this a known firmware bug or something I am missing. turning off double feed didnt help either, its giving the paper thickness jam code, can this thickness be turned off so it doesnt care if its thick paper in the bypass tray.

If it pulls from the standard weight trays if the bypass is empty and you have specified thick paper it screams to me of a driver issue or settings on the MFD or driver conflicting

Quick thought. Have you set the bypass to thick paper or labels in the tray paper settings ? Is if is non defined on the tray paper settings it will expect 80gsm so will bring up a double feed.

In User Tools - Printer check that the bypass tray is set for Driver/Command. That is the default for most machines but someone might have changed in to Machine Settings.

It is set for driver command, and does not have any specific paper designated for bypass tray. I am thinking its got to be a driver thing, it should take plain paper from another tray when we asked for thick paper in the driver. Going to try a FW update and reset the driver. Also double feed was off so it was strictly a thickness jam.

Does sound like a driver problem or possibly a software problem since it is going into automatic tray selection. If you are using the PCL6 for Universal Print or the Microsoft Ricoh class driver that could be the problem. Download and install both the PCL 6 and PCL 5c drivers. Try both and see which gives the best results.

SP 1313-006 Paper Thickness Detect Bypass can be used to turn thickness detect off for the bypass the bypass tray.
