[Jamming] Aficio 2018D - Follow instruction in Right Cover to remove

    Hi again

We have a Ricoh Aficio 2018D.

Lately, it has been displaying "Follow instruction in Right Cover to remove.." when the unit is turned on. There is also the letter B.

I have tried numerous suggestions like manually turning the registration rollers to check if any piece of paper got wedged. Also turned the fuser rollers manually. I vacuumed the paper path to pick up foreign objects if any. I also used a blower. I also cleaned the sensors.

There was even somebody who encountered the same error message and said he shook the unit (which is a printer) , but can't do this because this one is a fairly large and heavy copier.

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks very much.

Check SP 5803 Input Checks to determine which sensor is covered/defective. If all sensors are correct check that the cover switch so a change when opened and closed. If the main board, controller BICU etc, does not see the cover opened and closed it will not clear the jam indication.

Thanks for that suggestion. I performed a 5803 and these are the results:

There is a paper jam and you have not removed paper or there is still a piece of paper. Usually there is a place in the machine that you can not see the paper. That's before registration roller. Turn with your finger registration roller and paper will emerge.

Either you do not have a service manual or you do not know how to use the input check section. Reading for the duplex inverter sensor indicates that paper is present. That is your jam.

Thanks again. After some double checking some connections at the bicu board, the machine started working again.

However, the duplex function no longer works. Pressing the duplex button won't bring up the duplex menu.

And 5803 indicates the duplex inverter sensor is still at 1h.

As far as the duplex function not being available, I'd double check that all the connectors on the BICU were properly seated, because I do miss one from time to time. You might find it productive to double check as well. There is a surprisingly small difference between a connector that is fully seated and one that is not after all.

And that sensor is just inside the upper opening in the exit area. The one that paper comes out of and then goes back in when the machine is duplexing properly. See if there is anything in that area that shouldn't be there.
