    win 8.1 twain scan

    Hello.

I have a MP2000L and I need to scan with it.
Is it possible to use DDST twain driver in Win8.1?

I have already installed it and it finds the scanner but when a go (for example) in paint, it wont show any scan.

Is it something that I am doing wrong?

When you install the Twain driver from Ricoh, normally there is a NETWORK CONECTION TOOL, you have to setup the twain to comunicate with the MP (ip adress)

Or you can use the SCAN2FOLDER option, but i thing in that case you have to update the machine firmware first to make it work with Win 8.1

The Ricoh TWAIN drivers are 32 bit and will only work with a 32 bit program. As far as Paint, I have never had any luck using with TWAIN. I feel that it only recognizes WIA devices. For scanning single pages, I like to use Irfanview with all add ins to include Ghostscript. It is free for personal use. With all add ins, it works with all image files that I am aware of including PDF and allows you to save the file to a different format.

But as slimslob said.... You have to use a 32bit program

So... do you say that I need to download the 32 bit twain driver and that install it. And its done?

In this moment I do not have any device to test it. I am using a Win8.1 in VMware. I remember to install the third party Presto 9. But I do not have a device to test it.
I also read that GDI controller are not compatible with twain because they use WIA.

I do not have much experience with this GDI thing... I do appreciate any help from you all.

            Thank you so much

I think the procedure is the same... But there is a network connection tool you have to setup first... It comes with the twain.... I'm not shre if with WIA it's the same

Ricoh only makes 32 bit TWAIN drivers. Ricoh-usa only shows the DDST TWAIN driver for the MP 2000L. If there were a WIA or network WIA driver it would be listed but it is not. After installing the driver, you then need a 32 bit software to use for scanning into. If you are primarily wanting to scan to image files, use Irfanview as I have already suggested or Google scan to jpeg software. If you need to scan to pdf then search for scan to pdf software. We cannot do every thing for you.

                  Re: win 8.1 twain scan

AFAIK, there are very few, if any, 64 bit scanning apps.

I have been told by 2 different vendor reps (NOT sales reps), that their apps will continue to be 32 bit for the forseeable future, as pretty much nothing supports 64 bit TWAIN.

Do what SlimSlob says, and get yourself a copy of Irfanview, it works great. And Ghostscript / Ghostview are must haves, those are both free, even for business.

Remember that Irfanview is free for personal use only, and you pay otherwise. The good news is that, while I don't know the price, it is very reasonable.
