MP 161 installing new PCU but get message to set the PCU correctly

When installing a new type 1515 PCU I get the message: "Turn the main power switch off then set the PCU correctly". I tried another PCU and have no problem. This is a new PCU and I cannot figure out why it is saying this, tries it a few times but no luck. Anyone see this before? I checked to make sure I am pressing in the little cable enough so that's not it either.

the new one must have in the low part of the piece and at the end of the module one kind of gear
this part tells to the machine there is a new pcu and the machine reset make some kind of test and adjust the ID sensor and TD sensor automatically, check if your new pcu have this part

You're thinking of the type 1027 PCU. These have no such "Flag" gear to reset the unit.

Never seen this issue myself, but while the new unit may be plugged in correctly, my guess is there must be a broken wire or loose connection on the PCU connector itself.
I'd try swapping over the wiring harness and TD sensor from the used unit to the 'bad unit'. The TD sensor is only held on with double sided tape and can be pretty easily/ gently pried off -just make sure you have it turned over so that the dev doesn't pour all over you

Sometimes without the toner hopper unit inserted, the machine would not detect PCU.

Thank, I will try replacing the harness and let you know. The toner hopper is installed and it is the blue connector. Plugs in just fine. Very strange. tried two other PCUs and the machine powered up and printed fine, so it is for sure the PCU.

It is not the harness mongo was referring to, it was the PCU itself. If you are using Genuine Ricoh, the color of the connector is merely an indication of whether you have the correct PCU. If you have the correct PCU. check that connector is fully connected.

if it is new why not return it under warranty

I tried swapping the harness but no luck. I disposed of it, no use trying to pursue it any further. Thank you all for your advice however!
