I have a customer that has a sp5210 and she showed me copies or paperwork she was copying and some of the pages were half black, some 1/4 black and some were completely black. The customer told me she isnt scanning anything differently and shes been copying the same type of paperwork since the machine was installed and it never gave her any problems. I ordered the SBU and CCD assembly and a new laser unit and replaced both of them. The customer called back a few days later and she mentioned the problem is intermittent. Some days it won't act up at all. I'm going back tomorrow morning and I'm going to update the firmware but has anyone else seen anything like this?

Re: Ricoh SP5210 Producing Black Copies (not DOSS)
Hi
are these copies being made on the copy glass or through the ADF?
If through the ADF I suspect the ADF cable as we have had several (albeit other models) machines where the cables inside the ADF cable (which connects the ADF to the main machine) break [due to repeated opening and closing of the ADF] and this causes all kinds of intermittent problems.Press the GREEN button!! -

are these copies being made on the copy glass or through the ADF?
Are they copying anything that might have copy protection pattern in the background, checks, currency etc?Comment

Re: Ricoh SP5210 Producing Black Copies (not DOSS)
I was there again today and I doubt its the firmware. Theyre still getting the sc codes I thought I fixed by replacing the laser. Polygon motor error etc... heres a pic of the smc, whats even weirder is that there is no sc101 mentioned in the SC tables of the service manual.

Re: Ricoh SP5210 Producing Black Copies (not DOSS)
Thanks that helps a lot, I suspected the lamp on the first visit so I did a free run with the exposure lamp on thinking of or more of the leds had gone bad and the whole thing was lit up very bright. But if the issue is intermittent it would explain why I never seen anything while I was there. I have the led board already (ordered it thinking it was the sbu) I'll get the led assembly and change everything out so I don't have to keep going back. That would explain why she has partially black images that are not consistent.

Re: Ricoh SP5210 Producing Black Copies (not DOSS)
You said all the copies are through the ADF.
Is the customer doing any A5 or credit cards with the ADF up. There is an off chance they could be getting office florescent light noise into the CCD.
It gives a type of dark banding problem. Instruct the customer to remove their hand from the copy glass place a larger sheet of blank paper over the credit card before copying.Inauguration to the "AI cancel-culture" fraternity 1997...

Re: Ricoh SP5210 Producing Black Copies (not DOSS)
I figured I would update the thread in case anyone else searches for it. I went back and replaced the led assembly. and the customer said it did the same thing not more than an hour after I left. I went back and replaced the led drive(r)? board and she has not called back in a week so I assume it was the board.
I also just realized i used DOSS in the title, that rewrites the hard drive after jobs and I always mix it up with the security feature built into the machine for checks and money.Last edited by Robertgst; 10-29-2015, 06:17 AM.Comment
