Ricoh 1357ex pale print lower half of page

Hi All,

having some probelams with our 1357s. Both machines have been out now since Monday. On monday our tech ordered a drum for one and a dev unit for the other. Today we we're told that the parts were yet to be ordered. I've managed to get one running again by swapping the drum and corona wires from the other machine (the drum on it's own didn't seem to suffice) - so at least we have some production now.

The other machine is printing the bottom third of a page very pale. The top is fine. The tech has ordered a new dev unit for this but we did try swapping the dev unit this morning and it didn't make any difference. I really don't need him to turn up on Friday/Monday to fit a new unit that doesn't cure it so does anyone care to hazard a guess as to what might cause this?

Michael; Try cleaning the charge wire and grid first and then inspect/clean the laser window. Many times the dusting gets into the laser and causes this issue. After swapping the dev unit without success, unlikely that's the cause.. save ur money on that. Kev

If your sure it isnt the dev/dev unit have you cleaned the laser shield glass

Thanks for the reply Moza. I haven't - not sure where it is. It does make sense though that if the dev units are swapped and the problem's still there then it can't be the dev unit, correct? I wondered if you're supposed to do anything clever when you swap them. Will locate the glass and have a look.

Glass located. It was pretty dirty but it hasn't solved anything. I think I'm not going to get anywhere with this as it's using the old drum from the other machine. Will have to wait for the tech to bring the new drum.

if you have two machines try to swap the Transfer unit......

If the shield glass was excessively dirty, specially if it was toner hazing, it might have gotten inside the laser housing.
