    C5502A CIS MALFUNCTION

Hi, All. I have a c5502a that puts an all black image on the 2nd side from a 2 sided original. I've not found much info on this fault. I'm figuring a CIS replacement is in order, but I thought I would run it by you guys before I ordered one. Have you seen this before?

I haven't seen that, but I'd be looking at the harness for the cis, check wiring for cuts. I would suspect you would get an error..but not sure. don't know if u can manually light that one up or not. can u tell if its doing anything?

I havent seen seen it personally, but I have heard of it and apparently in most cases it is a corrupt Nvm value associated with the Cis, might be worth running thru these values first looking for one that is way off.

        Update the firmware first.

Do an NVR backup on to an SD and then a Memory clear. Then try scanning again.

If it is still bad, most likely the CIS unit has failed.

Reupload the NVR data once testing is completed

Thanks for the input, I have not heard of the NVRAM causing the issue. One more question. Are the single pass document feeders on the C4501A, C5502A, and the C5503A interchangable? (It would be good to know if the CIS is indeed at fault)

As far as I know, the only one of those models with a Single pass document feeder was the MPC5503SP.

The MPC4501 and MPC5502 both used ARDF units.

Just checked rapnet as well as they only have ARDF manuals for those two as well.

The MP C5503 was the only one that came with a SPDF as the default. MP C4501 and MP C5502 came standard with an ARDF but had an optional SPDF.

totally not funny if the CIS is really defective - kind of a total loss thx to the part price^^

                        Re: C5502A CIS MALFUNCTION

Someone MUST have done a RAM clear before we got the machine and neglected to reinput the CIS values for RGB. Here is a pic of the machine birth certificate, the values in the NVRAM were all "0". I want to thank all who assisted in this repair. Normal troubleshooting would have had me swapping a CIS which would not have fixed the machine. Today is a good day! And it's Friday.
