    [Jamming] MP6001 Duplexes 8.5x 11 Only

    I have a MP6001 that will duplex 8.5 x 11 copies, but jams when duplexing 8.5 x 14 and 11 x 17. I get J069 (Duplex Entrance SN: Lag) and J023 (Duplex Exit SN: Late) jam codes.

I would look for dirty or bad sensors and duplex drive slippage.

Agree with Slimslob............dirty sensors are a common cause of this and also those sensors do go bad and need to be replaced sometimes but had one last month jamming on letter size that proved difficult to diagnose. Ended up being slight flat spots on the duplex rollers at the inlet causing a hesitation in feed. At 60 copies per minute.....it doesn't take much of a hesitation to throw a jam code.

One thing I ran into on these (more common than you would think), is the white idler rollers right at the duplex entrance (in the fuser/exit unit) were popped out of place due to the tension spring either missing or deformed. Check all the idle rollers in the unit and clean the duplex rollers (large rubber) with de ink.

Again, not to overlook the simple cause, someone didn't manually select 8 1/2x11 on the tray size instead of auto-select in the lower trays did they? I guess I'm asking if the display matches the size of paper in the tray.

His problem is not with 8 1/2 X 11. It works fine. His problem is with longer paper.

exactly. It would feed 11" fine but if it had longer paper in the tray with the machine expecting 8 1/2x11, it would show a lag jam...

Yes except the lag jam would be at the feed sensor not the duplex unit.

Try cleaning the small gray rollers after the fuser exit.......

Is the fuser in good condition, particularly the pressure roller cleaning system? Older versions of this machine in heavy use suffered from a toner build up on the cleaning roller which could intermittently alter the rotation speed and call various timing paper jams.

Actually, I fixed it by replacing the duplex exit sensor.

Is that the reason why sometimes the paper jam - with dog ear and skew - in the paper exit section 2 of the fusing unit?
More precisely, in the arrea between the fusing unit and the duplex unit?

Check for worn mylar guides in the paper registration section of the machine.

Slimslob: those mylars have all been replaced together with registr. clutches, registr. rollers and so on...
