Ricoh MPC6501 - blur first 200 prints in the morning

    Hi

Has anyone come across this, where the MPC6501 makes a smudge on the black drum for the first 200 prints from start-up in the morning?

It would seem that there is an issue with moisture, but i cannot pinpoint it.

The only heater options, are for the trays and the scanner so that would not help (even though we have them all enabled).

We also set the machine to start up at 6am already so that it is at working temp at 8-9am when the customer starts working, still we have the problem.

It seems to only affect the black drum unit and i am thinking the only 2 common things are the fact that it is the only unit that has a charge corrona and not a roller and the only drum in permanent contact with the transfer belt.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

I have seen it many times, and have found in most cases I have had to replace both coro assy and that actual drum. I think it is not moisture but some sort of ozone gas issue causing a reoccuring blurr after periods of non use. Fyi I have replaced air and ozone filters and this has not solved this problem. So to sum up I would recommend replacement of the K coro assy and drum.

We have had the same issue on that specific model, our only cure was as the same as above, we chalked it up to some sort of moisture issue, seems like its always the black drum that it does this on.

        hi.

Had tuis loads. Once the drum does it it will do it again and again as if it's got stained. It's the filters that need cleaning mainly to give it ventilation. There are three. main drum cover filter, toner unit filter x2 and then you need to replace the drum regardless. Once done every time you visit the machine clean the filters and it will be fine. You will be surprised how quickly the filter get covered up.

        Hope that helps.

This also happens with their B|W unit in the same segment,ie console unit that are 60 ppm and better. The only solution is to replace the drum and have the end user move the machine away from any AC units. According to the manufactures Product Support Guide, the unit should not be placed where there will be a sudden change in temperature. Every time I had this issue it was because there was a AC unit blowing directly on the machine.

Perhaps a little stupid, but when it is a ventilation problem, you can remove the rear covers for a few days and see what happens...

Timmytronic is not referring to the main filters on the back corner of the machine. There are filters on the toner hopper unit, the top of the development units and, if I remember correctly, on the front plate for the PCDUs, the one you have to remove in order to remove a PCDU or the ITB assembly.

Slimslob: that is al correct, but, it's worth trying, i have removed the covers with a mp6001 and jamming was significant less than before...
