You need to enter your SMTP server (user tools-system settings- file transfer- SMTP server), also in that area find the Administrator email address menu and give it one. Eg scanner@kaseto.com then save and click next and make sure Auto specify senders name is set to on.

If the above doesn't work :

Are using a name for SMTP server? If using a name try the IP instead or make sure you have DNS entries (user tool- system settings- interface setting- DNS)

If after that it still fails you may have authentication turned on and will need to enter this in the menu below SMTP server.

If it still doesn't work make sure you haven't accidently adjusted something before you started the above (pop, other menus)

Before you start, you need to get all the necessary information concerning the email provider.
      SMTP server name
      SMTP port (25, etc)
      Is authentication required
If it is you will need an email account that can be used to authenticate with (email address, login name, and password).
Does the SMTP server require SSL or TLS? If it does, do they have a Port 25 relay service available? MP 4001 does not support secure email (SSL TLS). This has to do with the CPU chip on the controller board and is not correctable with firmware. SMTP over SSL was introduced with the XXX2 B/W models.

Some ISP block port 25 SMTP at the DSL/Cable modem. Some block all SMTP from scan devices other than to their own SMTP server and do not provide non SSL/TLS relay. Many of those are now requiring TLS for everything. If your customer has one of those ISP then the only option is setting up Stunnel or a similar utility on a customer computer or server.
