Ricoh MP 4500 Development Unit - what is the (RJ 45- like) plug for?

Hello, I was wondering if the plug that goes into the machine when you insert the development unit does anything besides tell the machine it is installed. Can it go bad and can it be replaced? Looks like a 12 volt sensor or something. Thanks.

It never "goes bad" but it does get toner/developer in it. Just blow it out with canned air when you do your maintenance. Why are you asking? What is going on with the machine?

        Thanks for the info.

I was having gray shading over the whole page and with 121K on the machine I thought that it might not need a developer change and it might be something else. (Like that sensor on the bottom.)

But I decided to replace the developer and that must have been it. Although one person had said it might have just needed the mag roller cleaned?

I also read where one person said the developer only goes 80 to 100K instead of the 300K stated yield?

If you DIDN'T give the mag roller a scrub you may be back shortly to rectify that back grounding issue :/

On some machines it doesn't last 30k. If you are able to watch the machine like a hawk, fit the B079 bottle motor and use 3045 toner. Backgrounding go byebye.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

            Hit it.

Do you also use the B079 Developer??
