no color pulse on 20 pin keycounter when printing

Hi, I have a Ricoh 3002 using the 20 pin key counter port. It gives a 5v color pulse on in A4B4 when color copies are made, with a short 24v pulse on A10B10 for paper exit. However I am not able to get the color pulse when prints are made only when copies. Is there a function I am missing or the Ricoh does not provide a color pulse when printing is selected? Please help ! Many thanks!

The key counter interface is just for photocopying, normally to be used with a external billing device of some type.

You can do basic print job counting by enabling user codes on the MFD and entering user codes on the print driver(s), but for more comprehensive print job auditing and billing you would need to purchase an software solution.

This machine requires the counter interface type A for any external counter device..........................

Thanks, this has worked on other copiers, Sharp, Xerox, Konica Minolta, but the Ricoh has limited me to just a paper out signal and no color signal when printing. I use the "optional counter interface type A" to get the 20 pin connector. I need a hardware solution without software. Would anyone know which user codes to enable on the MFD?

        This what I have currently:

        User Tools

        - System Settings
        - Administrator Tools
        - External Charge Unit Management
        - Copier- Need to select Full Color, Black & White, Single Color, Two Color
        - Printer- Need to select Color, Black & White

        Service SP settings
        SP 5113-1 4: Coin Rack
        SP 5113-2 *0:None
        SP 5120 2
        SP 5121 0

        Thanks!

Thanks, I have one on the machine. I currently use:

          User Tools

          - External Charge Unit Management
          - Copier- Need to select Full Color, Black & White, Single Color, Two Color

          SP 5120 2
          SP 5121 0

But can not get a color pulse on A4B4. It only seems to do this on the Ricoh. Any ideas? Thanks!!

As Cipher said, the key counter port is ONLY for copying.

From the fact that you said in your last post that you set SP 5113-001 to 4 for coin rack tells me that you are trying to use this in vending/coin-op setting and are wanting to sell prints as well as copies. You will need to set up user authentication to do this. You will also need to setup Print Volume Limitation, see Managing Print Volume per User in the Security Guide of the Operation Manual. Set Machine Action When Limit is Reached to Stop Job. When someone wants to print, he/she is sold a user number with the desired number of prints. User code is entered in the driver and the user can make that number of prints.

              Hi there!
For restricting colour-printing you have to set the sp 5894 to 1.
              Greetings...

Hello, thanks for your posts and trying to help me. I have a mechanical counter connected to the 20 pin connector that shows how many copies/prints the customer made. Another counter that activates when color copies are made so we can tell how much to charge the customer. The first counter works on the 24v on pin 10 (A&B), enable is pin 9(A&B). The color pulse activates counter#2 with a built in relay. So if someone makes 4 B/W copies and 10 Color copies we will know and charge accordingly. If they use the USB thumb drive or print from the computer, it will only show B/W prints, no 5v color signal when color prints are made. 5v Color signal seems to work only when color copies are made, not color prints.

It has been frustrating, called our local Ricoh guy and he did not know. There is another location with a Xerox and sharp with the same setup, works just fine although the wiring is different but the machine identifies color prints not just color copies.

Hope this helps shed some light and explain my problem a bit better.

                Thanks guys!

Don't need to restrict color printing but get a signal when it is done. Copying gives out a color signal but no when printing.

I believe the SP settings are not set properly. Not sure which ones activate the color pulse on printing. Has anyone worked on these settings before? thanks!
