    Light prints and copies MPW7140

    Hi Guys,

Ive recently been to service one of our large format ricoh MPW7140 Plotters, needed re dev, new drum, new charge corona and blade, tested after and it seemed fine having gone away and been called back as the prints and copies are now coming out faint and throwing up an ID sensor failure SC406. the ID sensor was fine before service, ive re input the dev lot numbers and re initialized the dev, and id sensor but i'm still getting faint prints, followed by the sc code. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Light prints and copies means either under toned or a dirty laser shield glass. You need to determine which happened first, print getting light or SC 406. Initializing the developer while you are getting light prints should not have been done.

First thing that you need to do is run forced toner supply. If that does not make the print any darker, you have a problem with that first as it can cause both symptoms. If the print does get a little darker, you need to open your service manual or Gooses Guide and follow the checks for SC 406. Since you have ran Developer Initialization, you will need to replace the developer again after all other problems have been corrected. Running developer initialization sets the TD sensor according to the current level of toner in the developer and should be run if and only if you have new developer.

check toner supply: make sure the seal on the toner bottle was removed. try to perform force toner(as slimbob said), just to make sure toner is dropping on the devt unit.

I haven't worked on any of the newer wide format machines, but the ones I did work on required two bags of developer.
