    Light copy (MP 6500)

The machine is having light copy quality problem. My colleague has requested development unit, toner supply unit and developer. I replaced all those parts but still the problem is not solved. I changed the transfer belt also but still same problem. What I did, I checked again the developer content and I found out it is less. The developer goes to the waste toner bottle. Is there any problem in the power pack? The drum is still good because the drum counter is around 350K...

When a machine becomes extremely under toned, it will start pulling developer to the drum surface. This is why you are getting developer in the waste toner bottle. Check that there is toner in the toner hopper on top of development unit. If not then you have a problem with the toner bottle unit. If there is, then it is not being added to the developer. The clutch that terramobil referred to is the toner add clutch that is mounted on the development motor assembly.

If you are not running enough prints, the toner feed will not run long enough to keep up.
After you replace the developer, find toner feed time in service mode and try reducing that value. Sometimes that helps.

You are refering to the toner supply rate 2209 which is default 850 mg/sec ? It used to confuse me that one because reducing the mg/sec you think it means less toner/sec whereas it is the opposite. Never found that it ever helped though.

That's the one, it took me by surprise as well. But the toner feed clutch stays on longer the lower that value is set.
I've had hit and miss luck with it myself, my guess is that it works mostly if the machine isn't running that far below ACV. That's why I am vague about it.

I am not sure but the way it appears to me is that 850 mg/sec is the idealized toner drop rate. It assumes ideal particle size for the toner, temperature, humidity, rotational speed of the dispensing shaft in the toner hopper and no partial clogging of the dispenser holes. If anything is causing less toner to be dropped, then decreasing the number, theoretically to the amount that is being dropped, will keep the clutched on longer in order to dispense the calculated amounted of toner.

And the TD sensor output still controls the overall amount of toner dispensed, so it won't overtoner the developer.
