I was called out to this machine for toner. When I got there it didn't need toner. I was packing up my tool case getting ready to leave when I looked at the machine it was saying a cover was open. I could open up any cover and it would tell me what cover is open, but when I shut the covers it would still say that there is a cover open but wouldn't show which one. I first cleaned the LD unit. When I turned the machine back on it came up like it was going to work but then it came up saying a cover was open but still not indicating which one. After that I cleaned the connection on the board on the LD unit, and then cleaned the main switch connections. After this I was able to get it to work. I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem before and if there is something I need to do for it? Any help appreciated, thank you.

That switchbank right above the fuser will do that for you. It has a connection on one of them that gives that indication. You can also get that if you get a bad connection on the ribbon cable from the laser unit.

We normally just replaced all those switches but I believe someone here said it was the middle one.

May be wrong on it being the middle so don't hold me to it.

This is a common problem with this series machine.
The 5volt interlock switches have failed replace the door switches.

I did clean all the connections on the LD unit and it worked until I put the cover back on. Actually I just unplug the connections then plugged them back in. I then to a contact cleaner to the connections as well as to the front door switches; still had the problem. Because I noticed moving the door switches I could get the copier operating but not permanently; I decided to take the switch assemmbly (main and front door switches) to the office and try on another copier when I found my problem. I failed to seat the middle switch correctly. Thanks for you help.

If you are in a fix with these switches they can be pulled apart and cleaned.
