    [Error Code] MP4001 & Windows Server 2012 r2

My customer has upgraded to Windows server 2012 r2 and the SMB scanning now doesn't work.

Updated firmware from Ricoh tech site but it still doesn't work.

    Is it supported or not?

        Deja Vous
Should be supported. In the US system needs to be 1.03 or higher and Network needs to be 7.38 or higher...not sure if the UK is different...

            Could be this:

            Update KB3165191

After you install this security update, the following changes are applied: NETBIOS communication outside of the local subnet is hardened. Therefore, by default, some features that depend on NETBIOS (such as SMB over NETBIOS) will not work outside the local subnet.

Have your customer's IT look into the KnowledgeBase article quoted above, it'll tell them what to do.

Nothing works quite so well that I can't totally disable it by trying to make it a little better.

If the customer has a domain, the entire domain is considered as the local subnet. You have to make sure that the domain name is correct in the interface settings. Also, there must be a valid SMB computer set in the interface settings and the first DNS must be the domain DNS. This will ensure netbios name resolution. Using the IP address of the server is no longer supported.

                Created on:
                11 July 2016
                Product:
All products capable of native scan to folder
                Subject:
Scan to Folder not working after Windows updates
                Issue:
Scan to folder may fail if a Windows Update that was released on June 14, 2016 has been applied to the Windows desktop or server operating system.

The Windows update may include KB3161949, which causes the issue because it restricts network connection using TCP port 139 (NetBIOS over TCP/IP). As a result of the restriction scan to folder using TCP port 139 across a subnet may be denied.

Windows 10 may have KB3163017 or KB3163018 applied, which has the same affect.

                Effected OS:

                Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 (KB3161949).

                Windows Server 2008, Server 2008 R2, Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 (both 32 bit and 64 bit, where applicable). (KB3161949).

                Windows 10 (both 32 bit and 64 bit (KB3163017 or KB3163018).

                Action:
                GW, GWNX and KIBO Controllers

                1. Make sure the firmware is up to date.

                2. Change the priority port for the SMB client to TCP 445 (Direct Hosting/CIFS) by using telnet as follows:

                a. Open a command prompt and connect to the MFP using telnet by typing the following:

                telnet <ip address of mfp>

                Note:
If you get see a message that telnet is not recognised as an internal or external command go to Control Panel > Program features > Add or remove Windows components and install telnet client.

Once logged in you will see the following:
