as long as they are the same capacity or above, any should work. i format them on my laptop and then reformat with the copier.

i used to get mine from best buy or similar.

You need at least the same size that the mahcine came with, and any off-the-shelf sata drive will do.
      - MP2550/3350: 40Gb
      - Mp C2051/2551: 160Gb

I'm not sure if/what the maximum size is (if any), but I installed a 500gb in a similar machine just today

i use to buy from newegg but these are quick cheap sales where i wont see a big return so if i can pop a 80 gig used tested i will.
i havent had to price hard drives i a long time as i have been lucky with needing them..
isnt the hd basically used for the doc server? or does scan option use it too?

HDD is necessary for Scanning, and duplexing/sorting functions, and probably a few other features

hopefully they didn't take the mounting bracket and connectors too.
I picked up a couple that some genius just went ahead and removed everything from.

On the MP 2550B units, if the machine does not have the Print function, then it did not have a HDD. 25 PPM, Duplex, Bypass and Interchange Standard, Mono Scanner. A Printer/Scanner Unit Type 3550 could be added for printing and included the HDD, additional RAM and the Print/Scan SD card.

It's been a few years, but as I recall, our leasing company required HDDs to be present in machines that originally had them.

When the customer wanted the drives removed and surrendered to them at the end of the lease, we had to replace the drive.

I was able to find refurbished drives at a very reasonable price. Normally they were somewhat larger than the originals, and would work just fine.

Ricoh's published policy for HDDs on machines being traded in or returned from lease was if the machine did not have DiskOverwriteSecurity installed and active, if the customer asked for the disk, it was to be surrendered to the customer.

here in the north east usa the lease return companies are more on the butcher side and if one found the wiring harness you were considered lucky.
i thought with DOSS everything on the drive was washed clean to govt specs?

As I indicated before, not all models have DOSS and with those that do, not all have it enabled.

i follow that but i have seen machines come back wth DOSS paperwork and still their IT guys would rather gut the drive...like they dont trust their technology they probably paid a lot of $ to use...odd
