Ricoh MP 171 SPF with HDD ... For what useful?

    Hi Experts,

my MP 171 SPF has build in Harddisk. But please tell me, on which functions the Harddisk is useful?

Is there any additional Configuration steps are required to support the Harddisk? (Exept that the Harddisk need to format
    into the printer).

By this way, can the Harddisk are changed for a bigger size? It's possible that the harddisk goes broken and
I want replace it to a newer. Is it possible to install a 120, 240 GB HDD?

    Best regards from Germany
    Michael

HDD means a Document Server! (Stored prints,...Locked prints,...Hold and Sample prints)
You must perform some Sp's after installation : SP5-832-001 etc... they are listed in S.Manual.
When it fails you can try another storage capacity.

i doubt you would need any bigger hd and the max speed to and from the drive would be controlled by the machine

You can put a larger drive in the machine, but it will still use the storage space that the original drive would have used: it's built into the OS of the machine to know what size drive to look for so if you put a larger one in it will just ignore the additional space.

            Hi rthonpm,

thanks for the hint about the hdd capacity. In the future, I think it's a problem to buy a Harddisk
            with 80 GB

              Hi Polo-022, Hi Experts,

please help me to use the harddisk in my Ricoh MP 171 SPF Printer/Copier. I bought an used harddisk and i reformatted the disk
in my printer with the command "SP5832-001", described in the Model S-C4, Machine Code D067/D068/D069/D072 Field Service
Manual. First Questtion: Is this the right document? I hope ...

I found on Page 81 "After installing the HDD"

              1. Do SP5832-001 to format the hard disk
              2. Do SP5853-001 to copy the preset stamp data from the firmware to the hard disk.
              3. Do SP5846-040 to copy the address book to the hard disk from the controller board.
              4. Do SP5846-041 to let the user get access to the address book
              5. Turn the main power switch off/on.

I can't select the Menu described 2-4. They are unavailable. I'm not sure, I suppose I need maybe an higher security level to
administrate the other functions? I enter the SP Mode with "yellow <c>" 1 0 7 and "red c/x"

Do you have any idea whats going wrong on my printer?

Best regards and many thanks for any helpful hint
              Michael

You only need to do 1., 2. is for watermark stamps, which hardly anyone uses; so is optional, 3. is for copying address book, which if there was nothing there before will fail; or will have to be re-entered manually.

                  Hello Ruben,

of course thanks for your help. If I understand, it's not necessary to use 2-4. Right?

By this way, I'm interested. Why are the Menue Items like 2. not available? Is this only available when a
Watermark stamp is stored into the firmware flash rom? If this correct, I had understand it.

But a Addressbook is on the printer available. I created it on the web interface But what's the reason,
that the Menu 3. is not available to copy to the hard disk?

                  Greetings
                  Michael
