SR4050 sorter "mp6001" cant remove staple cartridge

i have just one of these 100 page staple sorter with the big roll of staples and
have an accnt showing sc740 and sc 741.
I tried to remove the cartridge in every position and cant get it to move.
i know there is an arrow to line up with knob R9 but IT just doesnt move..I am going to spend one
more call to try to figure this out..I did rotate the staple cam, figuring it may have staple jam but it doesnt
    change anything..
i have onle seen two of these 100 page sorter in my many travels.
    any info appreciated.

740 is a corner staple motor error. 741 is a corner staple rotation motor error. If the specific motor is not at home position, if can lock the cartridge in place.

      thnx
i was a bit confused as i dont have the 4050 service manual.
is the staple rotation motor the motor that spins the entire staple unit almost 360 degrees?
the same that you turn knob R9 TO ACCESS THE staple unit?
before this they were having the sorter front door pushed open when the sorter first
cycled out.i cant see anything bent or any sensors knocked off..

I think slimslob was talking about the motor that does the stapling.
This might be useless nonsense, but you may want to watch the staplehead move around in the finisher to make sure it isn't binding up. I saw that on a SR790 that didn't have the guide on the anvil that would move the paper catch guides in the staple tray once. If time permits, make sure to take a good hard look at that too, as that was something I missed for a while.
Beyond that, I'd check the connections from the cable that powers the motor in the staplehead (it moves around a lot after all), if that's OK then the entire staplehead probably needs to be replaced. I actually spent some time trying to repair a defective staplead and no good came of that. At least if I'm doing that anyway.
If you do replace the entire staplehead, disassemble the faulty head until you can get the staple cartridge out and keep it with if possible. It might not happen right away, but you could come across someone that has a finisher like that which is out of staples, and if that cartridge still works you'd be a hero to those people.

The rotation motor is the one that rotates the stapler to position it correctly for for straight or angled stapling. The service manual is available from rfg-esource. rfg016704
If you have the manual for the older SR841, it is the same finisher other than covers and PCBs.

My guess is that you have a jammed hammer motor. You will have to remove the stapler to check it.

i am hoping when i go to the warehouse where i pick up lease returns i can find a 4050 or its earlier cousin just to
compare what i saw on my bad one.the whole staple assembly"not the staple hammer motor" pivots and does its dance on start up but i dont know
where it needs to be "in home position"..
if all else i am hoping i have a spare 4030 in shop.
