Yes, is there an sp mode that may be turned off
this was a use copy machine
No SP that turns it off or on. I'm wondering if they just installed a postscript card from another machine before selling it to you. You cant just swap the PS from machine to machine

Are you getting a message such as "THIS SOFTWARE HAS ALREADY BEEN INSTALLED ON ANOTHER MACHINE"? If not the the PS card is defective. Most like if you put it in a PC, it will not have anything on it. If it does have files on it either they are not the correct files or someone has put the card in their PC and their PC was infected with a virus that spread to the card.
Does the MPC4501 have to migrate the postscript SD card software onto the print/scan SD card like the MPC4500? After the migration of the PS software there should only be a single SD card left in the machine.

MP C4501 has embedded print/scan, no SD card required.
