    Ricoh MP C2800 duplex jams

    Hi

I have a machine which constantly jams on duplex at the interchange section. The solenoid which actuates the junction gate to direct the paper into the duplex unit seems to come on too late and therefore the paper goes into the interchange unit as if it was a single sided print and then jam.....the jam location on the log is Junction Gate Sensor.

I can manually actuate the solenoid at the correct time which will make the printer work but as soon as I stop doing this it jams... The solenoid is working but seems it comes on too late????

I have replaced the junction gate solenoid and also the whole interchange assembly. I have cleaned the registration sensor..

Not too sure where to go now with this?

I am hoping someone else has experienced this?

    Thanks

Somewhere around the solenoid linkage there is a pad, rubber or felt that the linkage hits against when returning to home position to prevent a clicking noise when it returns to home position. With age, these pads become sticky.

If the jams are at #024, replace D029 4580.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

          Thanks

is this because of the gray pad getting sticky?

Usually it warps from the heat of the fuser. If you take it off and sit it on a level surface you'll see it's bowed in the middle.

yes the duplex guide warps, the new style have a metal bracket to help keep it for warping. there is also a new style exit assembly itself available as the guides in it warp/crack and break.

Thanks, yes ive seen the guide with the blue lever on warp in the middle but couldnt see a reason why it would cause the jam. . . .

If you take the little cover off the front of the machine that covers over the exit unit fan, remove the fan, you'll see the exit unit solenoid. With the door closed, actuate the solenoid in output mode and you'll see it stick. The guide is warped and jams the solenoid actuator from moving correctly. This unit also warps with the metal guide in place.

Try to replace the tension spring.

                      Thanks all

Just to update that it was the plastic guide (part of D029 4580) which has the gray pad on that was causing the jams. Directly above the gray pad had a snapped off missing plastic which must prevent the solenoid arm from going too far away.

As soon as I replaced this, problem solved!
