    [Error Code] SC720-042 on MPC5504

    Hi all,

Has anyone had SC720-042 error code on the new Metis range (MPC5504), it is related to the HP of the edge staple unit on Sr3020.

Sensor has been swapped and firmware on latest version.

Any feed back would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

The stapler harness can cause stupid faults like this.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

      I'll give that a go!!

You wouldn't happen to have a part no for the harness as I can't find parts cat on My-ricoh site.

      Cheers

Just checked something - the SR3020 isn't listed as a compatible finisher for the '04's, only the '02's. Could be a software glitch with the wrong finisher. Supported finishers according to the manual are the SR3130 internal, 3210, 3220, 3230, 3240 externals.

I've seen this a few times. I believe what the case is on the usual is that either the sensor is dirty or bad, which you replaced so that can be ruled out. The other things that I would check for is to ensure that the harness is getting good connection and is not pinched somewhere between where it connects to the PCB and the sensor. I would also ensure that there is no tape or other debris left over in the finisher possibly either interfering with the harness or the sensor. I'm sure you've already checked, but I would ensure that whatever piece slides in between the photointerruptor's beam is intact and has retained it's correct shape. I've fixed many of these newer finishers with issues regarding wires getting pinched.
